The possession of CSCS cards is becoming increasingly mandatory across the UK, so it is essential that you have one in order to be allowed to work on-site. It acts as proof that the card holder has been officially trained in the health and safety of their respective trade and that they hold industry recognised qualifications.
CSCS cards are differentiated by their colour (red (experienced), red (provisional), green, gold, black, blue, white/yellow, white/grey and yellow) and all have different requirements attached to them – such as NVQ training levels and seniority ranking.
The CITB card checker is a central database which records what qualifications and CSCS cards are held by individuals. Employers can then log onto this database to double check that potential employees have the necessary qualifications that they claim to hold before offering employment. Individuals can also use this database to check their CSCS card details are correct and up to date. A combination of 2 details are required so that an individual can be located in the CITB card finder (also known as the CSCS card finder):
- Surname + Individual ID/Registration Number
- Surname + National Insurance Number
- Date of Birth + Individual ID/Registration Number
- Date of Birth + National Insurance Number
