Steven is a carpenter who has learned the tricks of the trade from his father. He’s a skilled carpenter and his customers would heartily recommend his services to anyone. He is looking to work on a big project and he’s found a company willing to hire him.
However, there is a problem.
He can’t get the CSCS Card he needs as he doesn’t have a construction NVQ.
No CSCS Card = no entry on to construction sites = no job.
Dream shattered? Well, not exactly.
Steven decided to take matters into his own hands and get the construction NVQ he needs to get on site.
What is an NVQ?
An NVQ is a nationally recognized qualification that proves your skill and competence in your chosen trade.
So how do I get a construction NVQ?
You don’t need to leave your job and go to college four nights a week to get a construction NVQ. An assessor will come and visit you on site and evaluate your work. The assessor will also ask you to perform various tasks according to the NVQ criteria and provide you with feedback.
But how long does it take to get a construction NVQ?
Not as long as you would think. NVQ’s usually take anything between 1-3 weeks to complete. The higher the NVQ, the longer it will take to complete.
It appears that you don’t need any prior qualifications to apply for an NVQ. Is there a catch?
It’s true, you don’t need any prior qualifications to apply for an NVQ! Although, if you want to do an NVQ Level 2, you will need to have done an NVQ Level 1, and you’ll need an NVQ Level 2 to do an NVQ Level 3, and so on.
So I’ve done my construction NVQ. How do I get a CSCS Card?
Once you have achieved the NVQ level needed for your CSCS card, all you are left with is passing the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test. The next step is getting the card. Sounds complicated? It’s anything but! At Construction Helpline, our team of committed construction professionals help tradesmen get the CSCS Card they need to get on site.
