What is the blue card CSCS?

According to the official site of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) – you must meet certain criteria in order to be considered and make an application for a blue CSCS card:
- Achieved a level 2 construction related NVQ (or SVQ course if you’re based in Scotland).
- Or have completed a suitable apprenticeship such as an Employer sponsored apprenticeship, a City and Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate, or a CSCS Approved Trailblazer.
- Applicants must have also successfully passed the CITB Health Safety and Environment test within the last 2 years at the relevant level for the occupation which is being applied for.
How long is the blue CSCS card valid for?
Typically, five years. It will depend on the type of card that you’re applying for. It is also worth noting that you can only renew your CSCS card six months prior to the expiry date and up to six months after the expiry date.
What happens if I fail my CSCS test?

Can I work while waiting for my CSCS card?
If you have proof that you’ve passed all relevant tests and that your CSCS card is on its way to you – most construction sites in the UK will be ok with you working at a site whilst you wait for your CSCS card to arrive. To eliminate all doubts and to give you peace of mind, ensure to double check with the principal contractor or client who is responsible for the site before you start working at the site (CSCS Exams).
