How much does it cost to get a blue CSCS card?
All CSCS cards usually cost £36. The price of the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test is a separate fee and costs £22 (CSCS). Any level 2 NVQ Course or SVQ course will also be an additional fee subject to the provider you use to complete the course.
Which CSCS test is blue card?
If you’re interested in obtaining the Blue Skilled Worker card, it is required for you to have successfully completed a construction-related NVQ Level 2 Course (SVQ if you’re based in Scotland). In addition to this, candidates need to pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the last two years in order to be granted the Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card.
What is a red CSCS card?
Red CSCS cards are essentially provisional or temporary cards for junior or trainee construction professionals. Most construction sites require proof that all individuals who work onsite are either qualified or working towards relevant qualifications in order to do the job well and safely (Essential Site Skills). The Construction Helpline offers a range of red CSCS cards – from provisional, apprentice, experienced workers, experienced managers, trainees and graduates.
What are CSCS Cards for and why do I need to get one?
Having a CSCS Card shows a level of competence in your job role, gives employers the confidence that you’re a committed professional and your work is of a high standard. CSCS Cards are issued as part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme, which require candidates to take on relevant courses and pass relevant tests before granting any certifications/cards. The key point of the scheme is to increase safety on construction sites and to ensure all those who are working onsite have the necessary health and safety knowledge. A valid CSCS card being a requirement before you can work at a construction site contributes towards the overall safety and standard of a construction site.
Is the CSCS Card a legal requirement?
No, CSCS Cards are not a legal requirement. It’s just best practice and highly recommended in order to prevent injuries and deaths at a construction site (CSCS). Employers in the UK typically will only employ those who have a valid CSCS card as it’s show competence, commitment to being a professional and knowledge of health and safety procedures at a busy construction site.
Summary
As shown, the commitment to continuing professional development and construction professionals having the right qualifications before being allowed to work at a construction site is essentially best practice – to ultimately prevent injuries and deaths at a construction site. UK employers and work colleagues will expect a valid CSCS card before being allowed access to the construction site.
