Want to get a CSCS Card? At Construction Helpline we get hundreds of calls from tradesmen looking to get their card. Today I’m going to answer some of the many questions we get about this topic.
Who are CSCS?
Construction Skills Certification Scheme are the body behind the CSCS Card and are widely viewed to be the leading certification scheme within the UK construction industry.
How long does it take to get a CSCS Card?
Before you’re able to get your card, you’ll need to sit a CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test depending on your level and trade. Once you’ve passed that, your card is processed immediately and should arrive within 30 working days.
How long are they valid for?
Depending on your CSCS Card, it should be valid for anything between 2-5 years before they can be renewed – by taking the CITB Health Safety & Environment Test. Some temporary/provisional cards are valid for a limited time only, and you’ll need to get a higher level card once these cards have expired.
Can I get on site even if I don’t have a CSCS Card?
It’s very unlikely. As much as 80% of construction sites across the UK deny access to those without a valid card.
My card hasn’t come yet but I have to start work soon on a construction site, what should I do?
If you can show proof that you’ve paid for your card and passed the test normally you will be allowed to start work.
