White/Yellow CSCS Card – ACADEMICALLY QUALIFIED PERSON
White/Yellow CSCS Card – ACADEMICALLY QUALIFIED PERSON
Individuals who have successfully completed a construction related course under one of the following programmes are entitled to apply for the White / Yellow Academically Qualified Person (AQP) CSCS card:
- a degree
- an HND (Higher National Diploma)
- an HNC (Higher National Certificate)
- a CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) Certificate
- a NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) diploma
The thinking behind the AQP card is that it offers holders of traditional qualifications an opportunity to train for a relevant NVQ on a real working construction site. If they did not have a CSCS card to start with, they would not be allowed access onto an increasing number of work sites - especially the big-name ones. So, this card considers that some people enter the industry from pure academia and does not dismiss the knowledge and skills that they possess.
In order to successfully obtain an AQP CSCS card, it is necessary for the applicant to supply a copy of the qualification that they achieved and - if available - evidence of the units earned through the qualification. The card alone will then serve to prove that the individual is either a graduate or a certificate holder from a CSCS approved list of accepted programmes or there is no need for the card holder to carry all their paperwork and certificates around with them. One scan of their CSCS card by an employer will link to a central database and will show that the individual truly holds the accreditations that they claim to have achieved.
The card also shows that the individual has sufficient competence and know-how to work and operate on a construction site. Not least because in order to be awarded their AQP card, they would have had to have successfully passed a CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment test within the last 2 years. Individuals are given 45 minutes during which to complete the 50-question test via a touch-screen computer. A score of at least 46 correct answers is needed in order to be eligible for an AQP CSCS card. Five key areas relating to health, safety and productivity are examined:
- General Safety
- Health and Welfare
- Legal and Management
- Environment
- High Risk Activities
The Manager and Professional test also include additional questions regarding construction, demolition, highway works, plumbing and gas. Construction Helpline wants to help you to pass the test first time round so that you can obtain your AQP card as quickly as possible. To aid your studies and to give you a head start, we highly recommend that students invest in our specially produced CSCS revision material which includes DVDs and books. Also, make sure that you allow yourself plenty of time to practice by using sample test papers and sitting mock examinations. The more you practice, the more confident you will feel in passing your test first time.
Once you have successfully passed your CITB Manager and Professional Health, Safety and Environment test, we will then complete all the paperwork for you and apply for your CSCS card on your behalf. Once the application has been approved, your Advanced Qualification Person (AQP) CSCS card will be posted out to you the very next working day. Most cards arrive at their destination within 3-5 days so you will not need to wait very long before you can start working on-site. Re-tests are also available if, for any reason, you are unsuccessful the first time.
How Long Is The AQP CSCS Card Valid For?
AQP CSCS cards last for five years and can be renewed during a 1-year window - 6 months before the expiry date and 6 months after. Remember not to leave it too late - if the one-year renewal window expires, you will risk losing access to the construction site that you are working on. It is a laborious task getting an expired CSCS card reinstated so it is always best to be mindful of the dates and start the process sooner rather than later.
